What does the Board of Directors do?
The Board of Directors is the governing body of the nonprofit and is responsible for ensuring the organization stays true to its mission, operates responsibly, and serves the community effectively. Board members provide strategic direction, oversee finances and policies, support fundraising and advocacy efforts, and help guide the long-term vision of the organization.
While day-to-day operations are handled by staff and volunteers, the Board of Directors ensures accountability, transparency, and strong leadership on behalf of the community the organization serves.
About the Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is a small group of officers from the Board of Directors that helps guide the organization between full board meetings. It is made up of the Board Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and three (3) selected board members, as outlined in our bylaws.
The purpose of the Executive Committee is to:
Address time-sensitive matters when the full board cannot meet
Support the work of the Board Chair and organizational leadership
Ensure continuity and responsiveness in decision-making
Prepare items and recommendations for the full Board of Directors
While the Executive Committee may take limited action on behalf of the board, it does not replace the full Board of Directors. Major decisions, policies, and strategic direction remain the responsibility of the entire board, and all actions taken by the Executive Committee are reported to the full board for review and accountability.
This structure allows the organization to operate efficiently while maintaining transparency, shared leadership, and strong governance.
